“We are here to make you succeed”; Western Regional Minister assures GNPC Boss
The Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko, has assured the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) of his full support to ensure his success. This statement was made during a courtesy call by Mr. Joseph Dadzie, the GNPC boss, and some members of his management team on the Minister in Takoradi. The purpose of the visit was for Mr. Dadzie to officially introduce himself as the new head of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation to the Minister and the Western Regional Coordinating Council.
Mr. Joseph Dadzie assumed office on May 2, 2024, following the resignation of his predecessor, Mr. Opoku-Ahweneeh Danquah, as CEO of the Corporation. In his remarks, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko emphasized the crucial role that GNPC plays in the governance of the country. He stressed that the success of the government in the Western Region relies on the performance of the Corporation. The Regional Minister urged the new CEO to prioritize the completion of all stalled developmental projects initiated by GNPC in the region.
According to the Minister, Mr. Joseph Dadzie should view himself as the CEO responsible for scoring the government's goals in the upcoming 2024 elections. As President Nana Akufo-Addo prepares to commission the ultra-modern Operational Headquarters of GNPC in Takoradi, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko suggested that recruitment of new staff should mainly be conducted in the Western Region, to appease the Chiefs and residents.
Expressing his gratitude, the GNPC CEO thanked the Regional Minister and the entire Coordinating Council for their continuous support of the Corporation. Mr. Dadzie particularly acknowledged Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko for his role in securing the land where the state-of-the-art Operational Headquarters is situated. He acknowledged the Minister's valuable contribution and perseverance in the completion of the project.
Mr. Joseph Dadzie stated that their visit aimed to seek input and counsel from the Regional Minister to help enhance the operations of the Corporation for the betterment of Ghana. He assured the Minister that the board of the Corporation has addressed the concerns regarding stalled GNPC developmental projects, and actions are being taken to ensure their continuation. On the issue of employment opportunities for locals, Mr. Dadzie pledged that priority would be given to individuals from the Western Region for roles at the operational head office.
The CEO assured the Minister that all concerns raised would be given due consideration at the board level, and he promised to advocate for their resolution. Accompanying Mr. Dadzie were Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, General Manager of Strategy and Investment, Prof. Kwesi Amponsah-Tawiah, General Manager of Human Resources, Dr. Dominic Eduah, Executive Director of GNPC Foundation, Kingsley Asante, Manager in Charge of Works, and Eric Kwadwo Asare, President of the Senior Staff Association.
