University of Energy and Natural Resources Seeks GNPC Support to Address Infrastructure Challenges
A delegation from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), led by Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako, visited Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) CEO Mr. Joseph Dadzie to discuss pressing issues, including critical infrastructure challenges hindering the university's ability to provide an optimal learning environment for its students.
During the meeting with Mr. Dadzie at Petroleum House in Tema, Prof. Asare-Bediako highlighted the university's ongoing infrastructure deficit, which has been a persistent issue since its establishment. He explained that the situation has been exacerbated by an increase in student enrolment, leading to overcrowded facilities and logistical challenges.
"The lack of adequate infrastructure is hindering our ability to deliver quality education to our students," Prof. Asare-Bediako disclosed. "We are forced to share lecture halls, leading to unusual teaching schedules and extended hours, which creates inconveniences for both lecturers and students."
The Vice-Chancellor expressed hope that the completion of several projects initiated by GNPC at the university would significantly improve the situation. He appealed to the Corporation to expedite the completion of these projects to alleviate the pressing infrastructure challenges.
In response, GNPC CEO Mr. Joseph Dadzie assured the Vice Chancellor of the Corporation’s commitment to supporting the university. He then assured that GNPC would prioritize addressing UENR’s needs by exploring ways to fund the completion of all stalled projects.
"We understand the importance of investing in education and supporting institutions like UENR," Mr. Dadzie affirmed. "We are committed to finding solutions to your infrastructure challenges, and we will soon visit the university to assess the situation and explore ways to provide support."
This meeting emphasizes the importance of collaboration between public institutions and Corporations in addressing critical issues facing Ghana's educational landscape. UENR's appeal to GNPC highlights the need for continued investment in higher education infrastructure to ensure the delivery of quality education and the development of skilled graduates for Ghana's future.
