“Maximizing Oil Production Requires Strong Partnerships”—GNPC CEO

Hon. Edward Abambire Bawa, CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has emphasized that sustaining, optimizing, and boosting Ghana’s oil production requires strong partnerships and collaboration with industry stakeholders. Speaking during a courtesy visit by a Vitol delegation to GNPC’s headquarters in Tema, Hon. Bawa reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to working closely with its partners to enhance Ghana’s oil and gas output.

“With declining production levels, we must explore every opportunity to maximize output and optimize our existing assets,” Hon. Bawa stated. “As a national oil company, we are eager to work closely with our partners, including Vitol, to ensure that Ghana’s hydrocarbon resources are fully leveraged to support economic growth and energy security.”

Reiterating its dedication to supporting GNPC in optimizing production and identifying new investment opportunities, Peter Coulson, E&P Asset Manager for the global energy and commodities company, said the company has remained a key player in Ghana’s upstream sector since 2006, highlighting its continued confidence in Ghana’s energy sector. He was in the company of Vitol’s Accra Office and Finance Manager Robert Derby.

“We have built a very collaborative relationship with GNPC over the years, and we look forward to strengthening that partnership,” Mr. Coulson stated. “Ghana remains a priority for us, and we are committed to working with GNPC to optimize existing fields and explore new opportunities that will benefit the sector.”

Discussions between GNPC and Vitol focused on leveraging existing infrastructure, such as the FPSO facilities, to accelerate the development of additional reserves. Both parties agreed that making full use of available assets is the most cost-effective and efficient way to sustain oil production.

GNPC also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Vitol to appraise the Eban 2A well and explore further opportunities to support long-term production levels.

“As a national oil company, our role is to create an enabling environment that allows our partners to thrive while ensuring that Ghana maximizes value from its petroleum resources,” Hon. Bawa noted. “Any collaboration that enhances production and supports the sustainability of the industry is something we will always take seriously.”

Hon. Bawa assured the Vitol team of GNPC’s support and emphasized that open communication and collaboration will remain key priorities under his leadership.

“The more our partners feel comfortable operating in Ghana, the more we as a Corporation can achieve our goals of driving energy security and economic growth,” he concluded.
