Marizuk Shaibu, a member of the Amuzu Club in Greater Accra, emerged as the victor in the men's senior 100-meter sprint at Ghana's Fastest Human (GFH) Open Meet. The event took place last Saturday at the Cape Coast Stadium. Clocking an impressive time of 10.53 seconds, Shaibu secured the top spot, leaving last year's champion, Joseph Andoh of Mfantsipim, in second place with a time of 10.58 seconds. Michael Cudjoe from GAF (Western Region) clinched third place, crossing the finish line in 10.65 seconds.

In the women's senior race, Naseera Quansah of SAMMO SHS (Central Region) emerged as the winner in a closely contested race. With spectators on the edge of their seats, Quansah ran a time of 11.56 seconds to finish in first place. Not far behind, Mary Boakye from GAF (Western Region) claimed second place with a time of 11.57 seconds, while Zeinab Awuni of Kumasi's SAG Nation club finished third in 12.31 seconds.

The competition, sponsored by GNPC, also showcased the talent of young sprinters in the U15 and U18 boys' and girls' categories. These budding athletes demonstrated their potential, indicating a promising future for Ghana's athletics.

The next qualifying event in Kumasi is now eagerly anticipated, following the conclusion of the Tamale and Cape Coast Open Meets. On June 15, athletes will gather at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to compete for the last remaining spots in the Grand Finale. The ultimate showdown is scheduled for June 29 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, Accra.

Nishawn Edward Ohene, Corporate Affairs Officer at GNPC, commended the dedication and hard work of all athletes who participated in the event. He expressed GNPC's commitment to transforming lives beyond the oil and gas industry, stating that their support for the development of athletics is one way in which they do that.
