GNPC Supports Jubilee and TEN Tertiary Scholars Aid Program’s Selection Process
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has once again demonstrated its unwavering dedication to education and human capital development through active involvement in the Scholar’s Aid Interview and Selection Process. This initiative, spearheaded by Tullow Ghana, aims to provide assistance to exceptionally talented yet financially constrained students in the Western Region.
The scholarship initiative garnered interest from 600 applicants across all seven coastal districts - Jomoro, Ahanta West, Ellembelle, Nzema East, Effia-Kwesimintsim, Shama, and Sekondi-Takoradi. After a stringent evaluation process, 200 candidates were shortlisted for the interview phase. Spanning from the 28th to the 31st of January 2025, the interviews allowed these candidates to vie for 100 available slots to pursue undergraduate programs at the university level, as well as disciplines such as teaching, general nursing, and midwifery.
Represented by Madam Patience Lartey, Manager - Social Performance and Local Content, GNPC participated in one of the two 4-member selection panels alongside experts from Tullow Ghana, Petroleum Commission, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Canoe Council. Together, they meticulously assessed all candidates based on academic excellence, personal drive, and potential contributions to their chosen fields, ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process.
Addressing GNPC’s pivotal role in the initiative, Madam Lartey underscored that investing in human capital stands as a cornerstone of GNPC’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) endeavors, particularly in regions directly influenced by oil and gas activities. She remarked, “Our engagement in this program mirrors our broader commitment to ensuring that aspiring talents in our host communities access quality education and the opportunity to forge successful careers.”
GNPC continues to collaborate with industry stakeholders like Tullow Ghana to cultivate educational prospects that engender sustainable socio-economic impact. Through a spectrum of scholarship and capacity-building programs, GNPC remains steadfast in equipping young Ghanaians with the proficiency and knowledge needed to make substantial contributions to national development.
About the Jubilee and TEN Tertiary Scholars Aid Project
The Jubilee and TEN Tertiary Scholars Aid Project, initiated in September 2024, aims to uplift economically disadvantaged yet academically promising students from the seven coastal districts in Ghana’s Western Region. By striving to address educational disparities and advance socio-economic growth, the project endeavors to facilitate access to tertiary education for these students.
In collaboration with the Jubilee and TEN partners, the program offers a holistic support framework comprising tuition, accommodation, stipends, and laptops. Geared towards public universities, colleges of education, and health colleges, the project seeks to empower 100 students annually. Through sustained backing throughout their academic expedition, the initiative is tailored to cultivate local capacities, foster inclusive progress, and contribute to the enduring development of oil and gas-affected communities.
