GNPC Scholars at KNUST Support Inmates of Kumasi Central Prison

Beneficiaries of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Scholarship at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have demonstrated a strong commitment to corporate social responsibility through an impactful donation to the Kumasi Central Prison.

As part of their social service projects, the scholars generously donated a range of training equipment to the prison's Skill Training Centre. This donation aims to replace outdated and malfunctioning tools, thereby significantly enhancing the vocational training provided to inmates as part of their rehabilitation process.

The donated items include vital equipment such as sewing machines, desktop computers, laptops, printers, and carpentry tools. These resources are expected to greatly improve the quality of training, equipping inmates with valuable skills to support themselves economically upon their release.

Richmond Danso, leader of the KNUST student group, emphasized the initiative's focus on supporting the prison's efforts to provide inmates with the skills they need for economic independence and successful reintegration into society. "Our goal is to help inmates develop skills that will enable them to contribute positively to their communities and the development of Ghana once they are released," Mr. Danso stated.

DSP Prince Boamah, the Head of Technical Unit at Kumasi Central Prisons, expressed deep gratitude to the students for their exemplary intervention. He pledged the Service's commitment to ensuring the proper care and use of the donated items. Boamah also extended appreciation to GNPC for cultivating a spirit of charity and community service in their scholars.

This initiative highlights the vital role of corporate social responsibility and the powerful impact that well-coordinated support can have on the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates. The GNPC scholars' commitment to this cause serves as an inspiring example for others, demonstrating that even small acts of kindness can contribute to creating a more just and equitable society.
