GNPC Inspires Students at Third Annual KNUST Career Fair

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) hosted its third annual Career Fair at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The event, held under the theme "Strategic Positioning for the Job Market," drew a swarm of students eager to gain valuable insights into career opportunities and preparation for the professional world.

The fair, a core initiative of the GNPC Foundation's Education and Training Unit, aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the competitive job market. The event came to fruition through the generous support of several partners, including CBG, Republic Bank, StarLife Assurance, AIC, Prudential Bank, GCB, Ecobank, Broad Spectrum, GIPC, EducationUSA, Colgate, and Carisca.

A diverse group of facilitators from KNUST, GNPC, and other corporate and business organizations led engaging presentations on a range of critical career-related topics that included "Identifying Your Career Path," "Design Thinking for Positive Change in Career Development," "CV Writing," "Emotional Intelligence," and "Financial Management."

Madam Selina Angmor, Career Coach at KNUST, in her opening remarks, outlined the purpose and significance of the fair stating it was to provide participants with insights into industry trends to enable them to strategically position themselves for career success.

Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice Chancellor of KNUST, then delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the crucial role of career fairs in empowering students. She highlighted the benefits of such events, including networking opportunities, learning how to present oneself professionally, and enhancing existing skills.

Dr. Caroline Aggrey-Fynn, Head of the Education and Training Unit of the GNPC Foundation, delivering a message on behalf of Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation stressed the importance of strategic positioning in today's job market, emphasizing that the Foundation was committed to engaging with institutions across the country to prepare students for work before graduation. She accentuated the Foundation's commitment to social responsibility and its impact on the lives of numerous Ghanaians through social intervention programs, initiatives, and skills improvement programs. Dr. Aggrey-Fynn further emphasized the shift in hiring practices, noting that employers are increasingly valuing the individual qualities and personalities of potential employees over mere academic credentials. She urged students to cultivate their personal development and tailor their skills and knowledge to meet the demands of their chosen fields.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the insightful and knowledge-based event organized by GNPC and its partners. The successful conclusion of the career fair brings to the fore GNPC's dedication to empowering students and supporting their transition into the workforce.
