GNPC Foundation Reaffirms Commitment to Ghanaian Medical Students in Cuba
The Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Ms. Helga JM Boadi, has reaffirmed the Corporation’s unwavering commitment to the academic and professional success of Ghanaian medical students currently pursuing their studies in Cuba under the GNPC Scholarship Programme.
Ms. Boadi was part of a high-level Ghanaian delegation that undertook a strategic working visit to engage directly with the One Hundred and Sixty-Five (165) students, who are expected to graduate in August 2025. The delegation comprised senior representatives from key stakeholder institutions, including Mr. K.K. Eyiah, General Manager for Research and Data at GNPC; Dr. Hafez Adam Taher, Director of Public Health and Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health (Team Lead); Mr. Eric Hammond, Director of Banking at the Bank of Ghana; and Dr. Kwame Karikari, Head of the Education and Training Unit at the GNPC Foundation.
The primary objectives of the visit were to assess the students' academic progress, evaluate their readiness for graduation, and engage with Cuban medical institutions on critical procedural matters related to the recognition and validation of their educational qualifications in Ghana. Discussions also addressed the translation and legalization of academic certificates, an essential step in facilitating the students’ seamless integration into Ghana’s healthcare system.
During the visit, the delegation held high-level consultative meetings with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in Cuba, officials from Cuban academic institutions, representatives of the Central Bank of Cuba, and the scholarship beneficiaries. These engagements focused on strengthening institutional collaboration, addressing student welfare concerns, and ensuring a coordinated post-graduation transition process.
In her address to the students, Ms. Helga Boadi emphasized that the GNPC Foundation’s support extends beyond financial assistance. “This is a strategic investment in the future of Ghana’s healthcare sector,” she stated. “We are dedicated to providing not only financial resources but also the institutional support necessary to ensure you complete your training successfully and return to contribute meaningfully to national development.”
The GNPC Foundation continues to champion capacity-building interventions aligned with Ghana’s broader development agenda, particularly in critical sectors such as health and education.
