GNPC Donates GHC 100,000.00 to Support Victims of Premix Fuel Explosion in Essikado

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by donating GHC100,000.00 to the Ngyiresia community in the Essikado Ketan Constituency of the Western Region. The donation comes in the wake of a tragic premix fuel explosion on May 18, 2024, which resulted in the loss of six lives, including a five-year-old boy and a 65-year-old man.

The explosion, which occurred as fishermen transported premix fuel in gallons to their canoes along the beach, affected sixteen victims in total. Five individuals remain critically injured in the hospital, while five others have been discharged.

The GNPC team, led by Dr. Dominic Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, presented the donation to Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional Area, who will oversee its distribution to the affected families.

Dr. Eduah expressed GNPC's deep sorrow for the tragedy and the Corporation's unwavering commitment to supporting the community during this difficult time. "We stand with the people of Ngyiresia and are dedicated to providing the necessary assistance to aid in your recovery," he said. "This donation is a testament to our ongoing efforts to help those affected and ensure they receive the care they need."

Hon. Joe Ghartey, Member of Parliament for Essikado, who has been instrumental in mobilizing support for the victims, accompanied the GNPC team. He commended the Corporation's swift response and highlighted the significant impact the donation will have on alleviating the financial burden on the affected families. "The cost of treating burn victims is extremely high, and GNPC's timely intervention will provide crucial relief," said Hon. Ghartey.

Nana Kobina Nketsia expressed his deep gratitude to GNPC, acknowledging the vital role such contributions play in times of crisis. "The Essikado community deeply appreciates the generosity shown by GNPC," he remarked. "This support will provide much-needed relief to the victims and their families as they navigate this challenging period."

This donation underlines GNPC's commitment to its corporate social responsibility and its dedication to the welfare of communities within its operational areas and beyond. The funds will be allocated to cover medical expenses and other essential needs of the victims and their families, ensuring they receive the support required during their recovery process.
