GNPC Commissions Ten Boreholes in Wenchi Municipality to Improve Water Accessibility
Wenchi, Ghana - The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) officially commissioned ten newly constructed boreholes across communities in the Wenchi Municipality in Ghana’s Bono Region. This initiative, undertaken by the GNPC Foundation, aims to improve the local water supply and provide safe drinking water, addressing a critical need in these communities.
Access to potable water is essential for reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases, including cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, and dysentery. At a brief ceremony to inaugurate the boreholes, Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, highlighted that the project was driven by a needs assessment conducted in the targeted communities. According to Dr. Eduah, they were providing reliable access to clean water ranked as the highest priority in these areas, where residents often face the hardship of walking long distances to obtain potable water. He encouraged community members to adopt robust maintenance practices to ensure the boreholes’ longevity and continued functionality.
