In a heartwarming development for Adoagyiri Methodist Basic School in the Eastern Region, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), through its Foundation, has commissioned a newly built six-unit classroom block for the Adoagyiri Methodist Basic School. This project forms part of GNPC’s ongoing commitment to support education and community development nationwide.

The official handing-over ceremony, which took place at the school’s premises in Adoagyiri, saw the presence of key stakeholders from the GNPC Foundation, local government, the Methodist Church, and the school’s administration. The facility was handed over by Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, who led the Foundation’s team in the commissioning.

Dr. Dominic Kwesi Eduah, in his speech, emphasized GNPC's dedication to empowering communities by investing in education. “Our goal as a Corporation is not just about giving back but about empowering the future generation through initiatives like this. We believe that every child deserves access to a conducive environment for learning, and this is why we are committed to supporting schools in underserved communities,” he stated.

The modern six-unit classroom block is fully equipped with furniture and learning materials, aiming to enhance the quality of education for students of Adoagyiri Methodist Basic School. The block will help alleviate the overcrowding situation that has been a long-standing challenge for the school.

In his remarks, the Headteacher of the Adoagyiri Methodist Basic School, Mr. Mathias Graves, expressed immense gratitude to GNPC for their generosity. He shared how the school had struggled with limited space for years, which affected the learning environment. "This facility has come at the right time. Our students will now have enough room to learn comfortably, undoubtedly improving their performance. We are deeply grateful to GNPC for supporting us,” said Mr. Graves.

The representative of the Methodist Diocese, Very Rev. Ampiah-Addison Eku, also took the opportunity to thank GNPC for their contribution to education. He noted that the Methodist Church has always valued education, and GNPC’s intervention aligns with its mission to uplift communities. “Education is at the core of our values, and we are pleased to see GNPC contributing to this noble cause. The children here will benefit for years to come because of this thoughtful investment,” Very Rev. Ampiah-Addison Eku stated.

Hon. Emmanuel Owusu Arthur, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nsawam-Adoagyiri, also praised the efforts of GNPC and encouraged other organizations to follow suit. "This is a remarkable step towards improving educational standards in our community. GNPC’s investment here is not just an investment in infrastructure but in the lives and futures of these young students. I urge other companies and entities to support our schools in similar ways,” Hon. Owusu Arthur said.

Also In attendance were Nana Amoako Ampong, Dwantoahene of Adoagyiri who acted as the Chairman for the event, and Mr Samuel Otopah Ntow, Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Director of Education.

The newly commissioned classroom block represents a beacon of hope for the students and teachers of Adoagyiri Methodist Basic School. It will serve to accommodate more students, reduce congestion, and provide an atmosphere more conducive to effective learning and teaching.

With the GNPC’s continued focus on community development, especially in the area of education, this project stands as another example of how corporate entities can have a lasting positive impact on local communities. The school, the church, and the local authorities are hopeful that this partnership will be an inspiration for future initiatives aimed at improving education in the region.

As the Adoagyiri Methodist Basic School students look forward to starting their academic year in the new facility, the community remains optimistic about the long-term benefits this infrastructure will bring. GNPC and its Foundation have indeed left a lasting mark on the lives of many in Adoagyiri and beyond.
