GNPC CEO, Joseph Dadzie, Champions Environmental Stewardship at APPO Conference
The CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Joseph Dadzie, has called for increased commitment to environmental stewardship from Africa's oil and gas-producing nations. This appeal was made at the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) round table conference on "Zero Routine Gas Flaring and Lower Methane Emissions in APPO Oil and Gas Operations."
Mr. Dadzie stressed the importance of collaborative efforts within the oil and gas industry to advance sustainable practices, specifically highlighting the need to address gas flaring and methane emissions. He emphasized the vital responsibility of industry players towards the environment.
During his address at the conference, Mr. Joseph Dadzie highlighted how the event brought together APPO member states to address methane emissions, a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. He also outlined strategies employed by the GNPC and its Joint Venture partners to mitigate methane gas flaring.
Mr. Dadzie further mentioned the Ghanaian government's priority of utilizing all produced gas for energy security and industrialization. He announced that, GNPC and its partner’s commitment to eliminating methane flaring on the TEN field by 2025. Mr. Dadzie reiterated the importance of leveraging the conference to explore innovative technologies and establish lasting partnerships in addressing challenges within the African energy sector.
The conference, organized by Ghana's Petroleum Commission and APPO, was inaugurated by APPO Secretary General, Umar Farouk Ibrahim. It aimed to foster collaborative strategies in addressing the challenges of gas flaring and methane emissions in Africa's oil and gas operations.
The participation of key industry leaders from Ghana and other African countries, such as Egbert Faibille Jnr., CEO of the Petroleum Commission, and Collins Adomako-Mensah, Deputy Minister of Energy, highlighted Ghana's collective efforts in eradicating gas flaring and promoting sustainable energy practices.
GNPC's team, consisting of Victor Sunu-Attah, General Manager of Engineering; Dr. Baah Nuakoh, General Manager of Strategy & Investment; and Kwesi Krasi Eyiah, Acting General Manager of Research & Data; further reinforced GNPC's leadership position in promoting a greener oil and gas sector on a global scale.
