GNPC CEO Engages SPE-Ghana, Reinforces Commitment to Capacity Building and Industry Collaboration

Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), hosted a delegation from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Ghana Chapter, led by Derrick E. K. Klutsey, at Petroleum House in Tema. The meeting emphasized the vital role of GNPC’s ongoing partnership with SPE in advancing capacity-building initiatives, fostering industry engagement, and promoting knowledge exchange within Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

The dialogue focused on deepening collaboration, with both parties exploring how SPE’s technical expertise could align with GNPC’s strategic priorities, particularly in research, talent development, and technological innovation. Fiifi Nyarkoh Otoo, SPE’s Special Projects Chair, delivered a comprehensive overview of SPE’s mission, spotlighting key programs such as the Energy4Me educational initiative, Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) efforts, STEM outreach, and participation in high-profile industry conferences. He emphasized SPE’s dedication to equipping Ghana’s emerging professionals and students with the technical competencies essential for success in the petroleum industry.

Mr. Ntow Amoah praised SPE’s contributions, noting their alignment with GNPC’s objectives of enhancing local expertise and empowering the next generation of energy professionals. He reaffirmed GNPC’s commitment to sustained collaboration, encouraging SPE to tailor its programs to address Ghana-specific challenges in the oil and gas value chain. “SPE’s focus on talent development and technical knowledge transfer is critical to the growth of Ghana’s petroleum sector. As GNPC intensifies efforts to develop marginal fields, we require research-driven solutions to bolster our capabilities as a national oil company,” he remarked.

Highlighting GNPC’s strategic initiatives, Mr. Ntow Amoah showcased the Voltaian Basin Project, a flagship exploration endeavor, emphasizing its potential to unlock investment opportunities through advanced research and risk mitigation. He also drew attention to the GNPC Research and Technology Centre (RaTC), positioning it as a hub for innovation and inviting SPE to explore collaborative opportunities in research, technology deployment, and upstream advancements.

This engagement reflects a shared commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships to enhance technical proficiency, drive research innovation, and support the sustainable development of Ghana’s oil and gas industry. The collaboration is poised to play a transformative role in strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and resilience.
