GNPC and ENI Partner to Inspire Ellembelle Youth Through Enrico Mattei Week

Ellembelle, Western Region, Ghana – November 18, 2024 – The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) partnered with ENI to launch Enrico Mattei Week at Eikwe Junior High School, fostering education and youth development in the Ellembelle District. The week-long event (November 18-22, 2024), dedicated to the memory of ENI founder Enrico Mattei, aimed to motivate students in ENI’s operational areas.

The initiative highlighted the progress of ENI's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) clubs, established in August 2023, emphasizing the importance of STEM education. The week's activities promoted learning, career exploration, and community awareness.

Key Activities and Themes included; Career guidance sessions for STEM club members, a Human Rights Awareness Walk which Human Rights clubs organized, Improved Cookstoves Debate led by Green clubs, focusing on sustainable practices, SEASEN (Segregate and Save the Earth Now) Competition: Open to primary and junior high schools and Football tournament involving participating schools which culminated the week-long event.

GNPC's Social Performance and Local Content Manager, Ms. Patience Lartey, underscored the importance of discipline and dedication in achieving academic success. Guest speakers, including Ms. Leticia Quarshie, Miss Ruth Aboagye, and Miss Elizabeth Agyei Blay (Ghana Gas engineers from Ellembelle communities), shared their journeys, emphasizing that hard work leads to success. Mr. Eric Agyei Gyan, ENI's Stakeholder and Local Development Manager, drew parallels between personal growth and the growth of a seed, urging students to cultivate a positive environment and resist negative influences to unlock their potential.

GNPC's commitment to empowering young people, promoting education, and fostering sustainable development in local communities remains steadfast. This initiative aligns with GNPC's broader strategy to contribute to the socio-economic advancement of the region.
